Half an hour from Siena, on the Sienese hills, where nature and history meet at any hour of the day, is San Bernardino del Lago, owned by the Palmerini Pietrelli family.
The estate of over 90 hectares, made up of woods, vineyards, olive trees, sunflower fields and a unique and rare natural lake is a place of exclusive beauty, in an incomparable naturalistic scenery. The three charming stone farmhouses, typical of Tuscan architecture, have been carefully restored by the Palmerini Pietrelli family respecting the ancient characteristics and are equipped with simple and refined furnishings to welcome our guests in an authentic and welcoming atmosphere.
Our estate extend between small ranges of wooded hills that lead in a gentle succeeded of colors to the Crete Senesi and Val D’orcia, in a suggestive position of virgin and uncontaminated nature, dominated by a valley and a natural oasis.
Often it will not be difficult to find some roe deer grazing at dusk on the versant above the vineyard or come across a heron wandering among the blades of grass and colored water lilies or admire the buzzard or the kestrel patrolling the lawn from above and lingering every now and then in the warmth of the sun on the top of some cypress.
Peace and tranquility are the distinctive feature of this environment but we must not forget to underline that a few minutes away there are two spas located in Rapolano Terme, famous for their healing properties and that in spring, picturesque villages among the most beautiful in Tuscany and of Italy explode with medieval festivals and representations of the past in an atmosphere of joy and happiness, colored by songs, dances, costumes, knights, falconers and goliardic joy, all following surprising culinary paths marked by typical dishes of the Tuscan, Sienese and Arezzo cuisine : pici with garlic and duck, Chianina in green sauce, etc., without ever forgetting a nice glass of wine, perhaps a red from Montepulciano or a Brunello di Montalcino.
Among the most characteristic festivals: the Serre Maggio wine festival, the Saracino Di Arezzo, the medieval festival of Monteriggioni, the Palio of Siena, the horse race of Torrita di Siena, the race of the barrels of Montepulciano, the Maggiolata Lucignanese. Among the most interesting activities are the Cassioli museum in Asciano, the truffle museum in San Giovanni D’Asso, the museum of the ancient Grancia and oil of Serre, the ancient Abbey of Monte Uliveto.
Among the activities of the Palmerini Company there is the enhancement of the white truffle of the Sienese hills. There are three reserved truffle grounds created to protect the white truffle from its extinction due to overuse and exploitation of its breeding environment.
The project for the enhancement of typical products implemented in San Bernardino involved the investment of precious resources in the cultivation of truffles, honey, wine and oil, all exceptional products of the Tuscan tradition. In particular, the oil is cold-ground, guaranteeing a unique taste and smell. Fruits, legumes, vegetables, jams, preserves, pickles and pickles are also produced.
